(DEADLINE EXTENDED) Behaviour and Neural Systems – CAJAL Advanced Neuroscience Training Programme (12 July – 1 August 2015 – Lisbon, Portugal)

Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to announce a new neuroscience summer course – “Behaviour and Neural Systems”.
This course is part of the CAJAL Advanced Neuroscience Training Programme sponsored by FENS and IBRO and hosted at the Champalimaud Centre in Lisbon, Portugal.

We will introduce early-career neuroscientists to the new technologies used to study behaviour. The course will be entirely hands-on, providing in-depth experience with advanced topics such as automation, computer vision, closed-loop control and virtual reality. Students will build their own hardware and write their own software for monitoring and analyzing the behaviour of fish, flies, rodents and humans. Throughout the course, world-leading scientists will discuss how to use these new tools for measuring “what the brain does” (behaviour) to advance our understanding of “how the brain works”. The course will conclude with a 5 day independent research project, supervised by experts in the field, during which students may explore entirely novel questions and consolidate their new knowledge.
Our goal is for every student to return to their home lab with the skills required to implement (and advance) state-of-the-art experiments in behavioural neuroscience.
